Overview:
Step into the shadowed streets of Warsaw and the perilous world of wartime espionage with The Warsaw Quartet: Blood Roses, Blood Sacrifice, Blood Vengeance. This three-book collection follows Jan Kalisz, a former chief investigator who walks a dangerous line between the Polish resistance and the occupying Kripo, risking his family and his own safety to gather intelligence and supply the resistance. Spanning late 1939 to 1943, these novels fuse historical realism with taut crime-thriller pacing, weaving together spycraft, moral ambiguity, and high-stakes missions. In Blood Roses, the city teeters on a knife-edge of fear as executions mount. Blood Sacrifice drives deeper into the ghettos and the resistance’s perilous promise to equip fighters. Blood Vengeance shifts to Britain and Scotland, where a crucial SOE mission hinges on uncovering a killer—while the fragile alliance between Poland and the UK strains under the weight of war. Perfect for fans of historical fiction and WWII crime thrillers, this set offers a complete, immersive reading journey, ideal for long weekend marathons or gift-ready shelf displays.

What Makes This Collection Special:
United under a single author and a gripping arc, this Warsaw Quartet collection delivers a consistently tense, atmospheric experience. Jackson's meticulous research brings 1939–1943 Warsaw to life—the fear, the curfews, the underground networks. Jan Kalisz is not a one-note hero; he is morally complex, juggling loyalties and risking everything for the cause. The linked narratives reward attentive readers with recurring motifs and evolving alliances. The Scotland chapters in Blood Vengeance expand the global stage while maintaining intimate suspense. The three novels together create a rich, binge-readable journey that suits fans of historical crime, espionage intrigue, and immersive wartime fiction. This paperback set is a stylish, ready-made gift for collectors and readers who love a seamless, tri-part arc and a hero you can root for across the decades.

Books Included in This Collection:
Blood Roses
September 1939. Warsaw is a city ruled by fear, with daily executions and harsh restrictions shaping every choice. Former chief investigator Jan Kalisz lives a dangerous double life, forced to work with the occupiers as he gathers intelligence for the fledgling Polish resistance. His family cannot know his true allegiance, making every scene feel intimate and risky. Jackson blends precise historical texture with brisk, cinematic suspense, plunging you into a capital on the edge where trust is scarce and courage is costly.

Blood Sacrifice
January 1943. Warsaw is a city of the dead; in the ghetto, fifty thousand Jews await their fate, yet they are determined to fight. Jan Kalisz, Kripo investigator and Resistance double-agent, has promised to supply weapons. The tension unfolds not just through plots and danger, but through the moral weight of loyalty, the risk of exposure, and the human cost of helping others survive a brutal era. This instalment tightens the net around risk, reward, and the choices that shape history.

Blood Vengeance
Christmas Day 1943, Arisaig, Scotland. The body of Polish SOE agent Krystina Kowolska is found in the gardens of a country house. Was she already dead when she was hanged? Two days later, Investigator Jan Kalisz is flown to Britain where Winston Churchill himself tasks him with finding the killer, even as cracks in Britain’s alliance with Poland surface. The pace accelerates as loyalties and secrets collide, culminating in a high-stakes pursuit that binds the three books into a single, pulse-pounding arc.

About the Author:
I’m Douglas Jackson and I’m the Scottish author of twenty novels across the genres of historical fiction, crime and adventure, including the critically-acclaimed nine-book Hero of Rome series. The final novel in the Warsaw Quartet, Blood Enemy, will be published on 7 July 2026 and takes Jan Kalisz through the gates of Hell. I was born in Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders in the summer of 1956. My writing career began when I joined my local newspaper a few weeks short of my sixteenth birthday and I've been labouring away with a pen, typewriter or keyboard more or less every day since. I spent another 36 years working in local and national newspapers before I decided give up the day job to become a full time writer in 2009. I now live near Stirling.

Why You’ll Love This Set:
Owning The Warsaw Quartet as a complete set offers a seamless, immersive journey through one of history’s most turbulent eras. The three novels maintain a coherent tone and pacing, ensuring a satisfying binge-read experience while delivering depth—both in world-building and in the moral questions raised by resistance work, espionage, and wartime alliance politics. With its collectible paperback design, it’s a standout gift idea for readers who prize authenticity, atmosphere, and a strong, unflinching hero at the center of a richly imagined historical landscape.
